Project description
The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) significantly influences the monsoonal climate in many countries bordering the Indian Ocean including Australia. A recent study (Lu and Ren, Geophysical Research Letters, 2020) suggested that positive phases of the IOD are initiated by anomalies of the interhemispheric sea-level pressure gradient between Australia and the South China Sea/Philippine Sea. This project uses a range of climate data to explore this hypothesis in more detail.
