Project description
Kaempf's research group has recently discovered the existence of short-lived atmospheric cyclones in the South Eastern Tropical Indian Ocean (SETIO). The presence/absence of these cyclones are fundamental in the development of the positive phase of the Indian Ocean Dipole, which influences the monsoonal climate in many countries bordering the Indian Ocean including Australia. The aim of this project is to apply and refine cyclone-tracking algorithms to statistically analyze the properties of SETIO cyclones.
