Project description

Plants grow in soil and associate with a diverse community of soil microbes (bacteria and fungi) forming a complex network important in plant health and ecosystem. In response to changing environment, adverse climatic and growth conditions, plants have evolved adaptations that include exudation of organic acids to modify the soil they grow in and the microbial community they associate with. This project will focus on interactions between plant exudates and how this influences the soil microbiome under stresses such as drought and salinity.
