Project description
Paul Kirkbride and I are involved in joint research that relates to the visualization of DNA deposits present in fingermarks, especially those present on componentry associated with improvised explosive devices. This work contributes strongly to counter terrorism capability and a specialized field called weapons technical intelligence. Two current priorities for research include investigation of materials that cause PCR inhibition and the development of counter-measures against the destructive reaction between DNA and metals such as copper and zinc on items such as electrical/ electronic components and cartridge cases.
