Project description
Early mobilisation of patients in the ICU is increasingly occurring and has been shown to be safe and feasible. While there are many studies on the clinical safety of mobilising, the practicality of continuous monitoring while moving patients is an important consideration. Currently, diagnostic monitoring involves sensors and tubing attached to various parts of the patient’s body, all connected to bedside monitors and pumps. This creates a tangle of “spaghetti” that must be negotiated if a patient is to be moved or transported. This project focuses on the development of a wireless vital sign monitoring system that simplifies mobilisation of ICU patients. The system will include ECG, pulse oximetry, and invasive blood pressure with wireless display of patient data.
