Project description

The torque and power density of the electric machines are increased by the utilization of permanent magnet materials in their structure. For this reason, permanent magnet machines are much popular to be employed in electric bikes and motorcycles. In this study, the student designs an in-wheel interior permanent magnet machine based on the sizing equations. The design formulas are corrected based on the finite element analysis of the machine in Ansys Maxwell or FEMM software. The corrected analytical model is used for some sensitivity analysis and optimization procedures. Finally, the results of the behaviour of the optimum design are validated based on the finite element analysis.
