Project description

Traditional brass plumbing fixtures contain lead that can potentially leach into drinking water, with lead consumption linked to severe health conditions. As such, low lead alternative plumbing materials are being developed. However, the impact of these novel materials on the microbial water quality is not known. This study will investigate the influence of plumbing materials on biofilm attachment, formation and community profiles. The influence of the plumbing material on the growth of opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens (OPPPs), efficacy of disinfection approaches and other water quality characteristics will be explored.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
