Project description

Hospitals are under increasing pressure to be more environmentally sustainable. One such strategy that is gaining traction is the use of recycled wastewater for non potable uses such as toilet flushing. However, this presents new challenges for infection control within the healthcare setting, as recycled water may contain opportunistic pathogens such as Legionella pneumophila, Mycobacterium avium complex and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The aim of this project is to investigate the presence of these pathogens in aerosols generated during the use of recycled water for toilet flushing. This information will inform future guidelines for the use of recycled water in healthcare settings.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
