Project description
This project is in collaboration with Forensic Science South Australia (FSSA). Australian and New Zealand Standard 4760:2019 requires confirmatory analysis of drugs in oral fluid specimens which is performed using liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Confirmation is analytically demanding: collection devices dilute an already small specimen into several millilitres of preservative buffer, so sensitivity at cut-off concentrations depends heavily on extraction efficiency and concentration factor. Pipette-tip extraction offers potential improvements in efficiency, sensitivity and automatability over traditional extraction techniques as the tips are amenable to automation on liquid handling platforms and require low elution volumes.
