Project description

How fast do dunes migrate? What is the relationship between dune movement and climate factors? How does vegetation colonisation take place? What are the successional trends? How did rabbits change vegetation cover? Study these questions and more on coastal dunes around SA.

Assumed knowledge

None, but preferred if you have GIS skills and have completed ENVS2731 Coastal processes

Supervisors research focus

I am a coastal geomorphologist/geoscientist with a keen interest in beach and dune dynamics, geomorphology, ecology, evolution, GIS, and management. I’m interested in projects that involve: field and computer modelling studies of wind flow and sand transport over dunes, historical evolution of dunefields and relationships to climate change, surfzone-beach-dune interactions, beach erosion and sea level rise, coastal plant ecology, coastal barrier evolution in the past 10,000 years, impacts of fires on dunes, and more. Temperature based projects

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
