Project description

Delamination of lamellae, which marks the boundary between anulus fibrosus layers (the inter-lamellar matrix (ILM)), is believed to lead to the development of circumferential tears that have been associated with degeneration. However, there are no studies on whether delamination affects ILM mechanical integrity in the disc. The aim of this project is to compare the micromechanical properties of normal and delaminated ILM tissue in ovine (sheep) lumbar spines using a custom-developed delamination device.
