Project description

The FAME group studies the roles of microbes and viruses in different environments, including those associated with human health and disease, microbes and viruses in the ocean, and soils. We have studied mine sites, coral reefs, sharks, cystic fibrosis, Crohn's disease, and everything in between! Rob Edwards (see the Edwards Lab Website) is a Professor of Bioinformatics and has taught microbiology, computer science, bioinformatics, and many other topics. He has published over 150 papers including lots with student co-authors. We are always looking for talented young scientists (yes, that's you!) to join our groups. We do everything from writing computer programs to analyse DNA sequences and data, laboratory culturing of bacteria and viruses, working with clinicians to get patient samples, to sampling bacteria and viruses from koalas and sharks. We will work with you to define a project that will meet your goals and help you to advance your career.

Assumed knowledge

We don't assume any knowledge when you start: we'll work with you to define a project that builds on your strengths. We are always looking for computer scientists, microbiologists, biotechnology students, health sciences students, and more. Not sure? Set up a time to come and talk with Rob.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
