Project description

New technologies and greater levels of digitisation and connectivity of processes and systems broaden the number of attack vectors available to adversaries making systems that operate in Critical Infrastructure (CI) organisations more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. It is essential to understand the criticality of business operations, designs and processes for improving the resilience of complex CI systems, particularly OT systems, where cyber systems are connected to a physical world via sensors and actuators (Industrial Internet of Things). This research project aims to develop innovative approaches to protecting CI organisations and their systems from cyber-attacks using artificial intelligence to analyse abnormal data that may affect critical systems. For more information, please get in touch with A/Prof Elena Sitnikova.

Assumed knowledge

Desired skills sets include: SCADA control, Python.

Supervisors research focus

Associate Professor Elena Sitnikova is a global leader for cutting-edge research in Critical Infrastructure protection with a current focus on intrusion detection for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems cyber security, cyber-physical systems and industrial IoT (IIoT).  Given the increasing number of cyber-attacks globally, Elena’s research explores systems resilience and the use of artificial intelligence in the analytics of abnormal data that may affect critical systems. Elena has been awarded nationally and internationally through numerous fellowships and awards including her recent Australia/NZ Women in AI Cybersecurity award and Defence-related fellowships as a recognition of her contribution to Australia’s ongoing defence.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
