Project description

The project aims to develop reliable systems for detecting customer phase connections, optimising phase balancing, and integrating these solutions into SA Power Networks' operational infrastructure to improve network efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Project Stages: Assessment of Existing Solutions: Evaluate current customer phasing detection methods (e.g., FutureGrid, GridSight). Assess their reliability using smart meter and transformer monitoring data. Develop a strategy for accurate phasing prediction based on smart meter data. Determine the required smart meter penetration for reliable phasing detection. Development of an Optimisation System: Create an automated system to calculate optimised customer phase connections to improve transformer phase utilisation. Implement the system using Azure DataBricks for efficient data handling and processing. Integration with Operational Systems: Integrate the phase optimisation engine with existing internal systems, including Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Provide phasing predictions with associated confidence levels. Expected Outcomes: Accurate detection of customer phase connections. Automated, optimised phase balancing plans. Seamless integration with operational network management systems. Operational cost savings by reducing the need for manual site visits. Improved transformer utilisation, enabling increased capacity for solar exports and new customer connections. Enhanced outage management with precise customer impact assessments and more targeted safety disconnections.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
