Project description
Microstructured optical fibres consist of a cylinder of glass with a collection of air channels running through the centre. These are produced by first extruding a macroscale version of the fibre from a die. In this project, you will model the fluid flow inside the die in order to understand how this may influence the final geometry. This will involve a combination of exact and numerical solutions, which could make use of complex analysis.
Assumed knowledge
Basic programming and partial differential equations. Some knowledge of fluid mechanics will be advantageous
Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
