Project description

Recently, in a high-profile case, a question was raised about the prevalence of human DNA and hair on the outer surfaces of the car. An opinion given was that hairs and DNA can be readily found on outer surfaces of a car from everyday use (in areas associated with a hit and run). However, to date no data exist regarding the actual relevance rates.  This project aims to collect preliminary data to answer this question. In the project we aim to examine outer and inner surfaces of the cars for any hairs that may be present. Any hairs that are present will then be microscopically examined to determine if they are human or animal. Further, presumptive hemastix tests will be done on the front and back outer surfaces of the car to understand the probability of obtaining a positive blood result in everyday circumstances. Finally, consideration will be given to performing some DNA analysis on selection of samples. The aim of the study is to generate baseline data for activty level evaluations.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
