Project description

DNA, and specifically touch DNA, is routinely found at crime scenes.  Majority of DNA evidence collected from evidence and scene is trace and touch samples and this type of evidence is often challenged in court specifically based on questions of how it got to the crime scene. A common question faced by Forensic Scientists is the possibility that small traces of DNA were deposited at crime scene not by an offender but through an intermediary. When evaluating these questions, factors known or suspected to influence transfer and deposition of biological material need to be considered. This project will investigate the different variables relevant to transfer and persistence of biological material both in controlled experimental conditions and in situations reflective of common crime scene scenarios.

Co-supervisors

Dr van Oorschot from Victoria Police Forensic Services Department Co-supervisor (to be nominated) from Forensic Science South Australia

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
