Project description

This project will investigate the population demography of bottlenose dolphins inhabiting the north shore of Kangaroo Island to inform sustainable marine mammal tourism in the area, such as carrying capacity limits, tour numbers, and operational zones.

Further information

The student will have the opportunity to participate in vessel surveys along the beautiful north shore of Kangaroo Island, learn photo-identification and cetacean survey techniques, and mark-recapture population modelling.

Assumed knowledge

An interest in animal ecology, behaviour and population modelling. Good communication skills, basic biostatistics knowledge, and/or experience with wildlife photography.

Industry involvement

This project will be done in partnership with the SA Department for the Environment and Water.
