Occurrence, distribution and seasonality of blue whales, common dolphins, and other cetaceans in the Otway Basin.

Project description

This project will use marine fauna observer data obtained during oil exploration in the Otway Basin between 2021-2022. The project will investigate occurrence, distribution, and seasonality of various cetacean species in the region using a spatial modelling framework. Outcomes of the study include knowledge about spatial and temporal use of the region by different cetacean species to inform industry’s impact assessments.

Assumed knowledge

This project includes only data analyses. All the data have been collected. It fits a student with good quantitative skills and an interest in ecological modelling.

This project will be done in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Marine Science and Beach Petroleum
