Project description

This project will investigate the occurrence, abundance, and habitat use of cetaceans in upper GSV. Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) are known to frequently occur across the seasons in GSV, particularly in the upper region of the Gulf. Sightings of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) and southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) in GSV are also becoming more common in the winter months. Under Australian legislation, all cetacean species are protected, with T. aduncus also categorised as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
