Project description

The water management in the Murray-Darling Basin is a wicked problem. Sufficient water of appropriate quality is essential for irrigated agriculture, nature, cultural flows, fisheries, etc. Groundwater is abundant in the Murray-Darling Basin. However, it often has a (too) high salinity. There are opportunities for, e.g. irrigated agriculture if these higher salinity groundwaters could be (partially) desalinated. In this project, you will investigate where and under which conditions groundwater is present and how it could be used for desalination. This will require using GIS and groundwater analyses and modelling software and the 'mining' of databases to estimate the opportunities and limitations of groundwater in the Basin. This project will be part of research activities of Flinders University as a partner in the CRC One Basin. It will give you possibilities to work together with industry partners of the CRC One Basin.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
