Project description
Aim: To develop an externally worn device that measures the spontaneous swallowing reflex, for those patients who are high risk of swallowing, and hence aspiration, issues. Eg ICU, MND, stroke etc Research and Development required: A 2025 student project investigated a number of sensors that could be used to monitor swallowing. This requires further research and development into a small, wearable prototype, interpretation of the data measured, and development of algorithms to detect (and possibly characterise) swallowing.
