Project description

The active materials in organic solar cells normally consist of a blend of an electron donating polymer and electron accepting small molecules or polymers. There are many potential advantages to use a polymeric acceptor material instead of small molecules but so far there are only a limited number of acceptor polymers available. In this project, the focus is on synthesising new polymers that can be used in all-polymer solar cells. The preparation of polymers involves preparing suitable monomers using multi step organic synthetic chemistry. The final polymerisation step involves the use of palladium catalysed polymerisation reactions.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
