Project description

The university has a fleet of twelve ESA robots used for teaching high-level autonomous robotics concepts.  Developed by Flinders staff, these machines use the Robotics Operating System (ROS) middleware combined with a mixture of custom and off-the-shelf hardware to produce a compact and highly capable robotic system.  However, each robot is an independent system, requiring independent monitoring and maintenance.   This project would investigate and develop a high-level system to task and manage these robots, along with hardware to allow automated maintenance, including battery monitoring and charging.  This system would allow monitoring and notification of robot state, reporting when the state of the vehicle lies outside the expected operating condition.  Finally, it would allow users to select and dispatch actions and behaviours to the robotic systems.  System behaviours will include automated docking with a base station, and display of the robots capabilities.   This is an exciting project that would suit students who are interested in the development of robotic systems, as well as learning more about cooperative robotics.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
