Project description

Legionella is the causative agent of Legionnaires disease, a potentially fatal pneumonia like infection. Outbreaks of Legionnaires disease within hospitals can have a fatality rate of up to 48%. Legionella is transmitted via inhalation of contaminated aerosols from water sources. Within hospital building water systems Legionella survives within biofilms. Understanding the ecological niche and characteristics of Legionella contaminated biofilms, and the effectiveness of disinfection approaches, will identify novel methods to control Legionella and prevent Legionnaires disease.

Note: You need to register interest in projects from different supervisors (not a number of projects with the one supervisor).
You must also contact each supervisor directly to discuss both the project details and your suitability to undertake the project.
